Physiotherapy is a well known treatment method that uses heat treatment, manual pressure, and movement to help treat diseases and injuries of joints, muscles, or nerves. But what is unknown by many is what is the typical procedure in a typical physio session. In this article we will breakdown the process and give some more understanding of what physiotherapy tries to solve.

The Standard Physiotherapy Consultation and Process

Before you attend your first session, please note that Physiotherapists charge per session which includes the first session. The average fee for a physiotherapy session in Urban cities could be INR 800-1,200/session, and INR 300-500/session in small towns and rural areas.

  1. Assessment An average physical assessment takes about 30-45 minutes. During your consultation, you will be asked many questions about your pain, injury or disease. After this brief question-and-answer session, the Physiotherapist will look at the injured area to make sure they get to the root of your problem. They will also look at your medical history - tests and reports from X-rays, MRI or CT scan

  2. Diagnosis - Post assessment, your physiotherapist will immediately discuss with you what they have found. They will advise you on what they think is the root cause of your pain and how they can limit the chance of recurrence of your injury

  3. Treatment - Your Physiotherapist will come up with a treatment plan for you, including recommendations regarding scheduling further treatment sessions with you. The treatment could vary from patient to patient but it is usually a combination of manual therapy and specific exercises for you to do at home 2-3 times a day
