A self-paced recovery is a rehabilitation approach that emphasises the importance of the individual's own pace and goals in their recovery process. This approach can be particularly beneficial for people with musculoskeletal conditions, as it allows them to take control of their own recovery and tailor their rehabilitation to their specific needs and abilities. At Physica, this is one of the main principles upon which we deliver physiotherapy services at home.

Benefits of self-paced recovery
Some potential benefits of self-paced recovery for people with musculoskeletal conditions include:
Improved outcomes: By setting their own goals and pace, individuals are more likely to be motivated and engaged in their recovery process, leading to better outcomes.
Greater autonomy: Self-paced recovery allows individuals to take control of their own recovery, which can be empowering and promote a sense of autonomy.
Greater flexibility: Self-paced recovery can be flexible and adaptable to the individual's changing needs and abilities, allowing for a more personalised approach to rehabilitation.
Improved self-esteem: By setting and achieving their own goals, individuals may experience improved self-esteem and confidence in their ability to manage their condition.
Enhanced sense of control: Self-paced recovery can help individuals feel more in control of their recovery, which can be beneficial for their overall well-being.
What does home physiotherapy involve?
An initial telephone or WhatsApp call is arranged with the physio who will assess your current condition as well as take a few personal details such as age, address and contact information. The initial consultation is usually around 30-45 minutes post which there are follow up appointments scheduled.
Following a comprehensive assessment, we will create a personalised tailored rehab program. Visits if required can be arranged depending on the location of your residence. To get a more complete picture of what a physiotherapy session looks like, check out a detailed article we wrote here.
Overall, self-paced recovery can be a valuable approach for individuals with musculoskeletal conditions, as it allows them to take an active role in their recovery and tailor their rehabilitation to their specific needs and goals. It is important to work with a healthcare provider to ensure that the self-paced recovery approach is appropriate and safe for the individual's specific condition and needs.
